Bear attacks are on the rise in montana due to the lack of hunting pressure and human contact, (i.e feeding them). One group, determined to reduce attacks, has sent out precautionary tips on how to avoid being the next victom. They warn against running, biking, and walking pets in heavily populated areas without wearing small bells (to not supprise the bear) and carying pepper spray.
Also, they encourage pedestrians to learn to identify bear scat so to know if bear are heavily populating areas they frequent.
The study reports that black bear scat contains various nuts, berries, and the occastional presence of mammal hair.
Grizzly bear scat will be simular but will contain many small bells and smell like pepper.
