I'm currently using Alpen 12 X 50. My recommendation is buy the best glass that you can afford. I moved up after several years of using cheaper binos. The view in quality glass is so much better, and with quality they will last for years.
I like my 8x42 Leupolds good all around binos but wish I had 10x50s sometimes for 3D or low light.
One thing I've noticed is that newer binos (even cheaper ones) seem to out perform some of the ones that are older. I'm guessing that's due to lense coating advancements or something. When I first got mine, I ran into a guy with some 4-5 year old 10x42 Zeiss binos that were about $1,000 new and my brand new at the time $250 Leupolds were every bit the glass as his, and that was what he said as soon as looking through them!
