3d Open Shooters: $1000.00 1st place, IL,IN,MO,KY Etc. Would you come??

Hey Friends, my name is Erik Sullens, I am one of the guys who helps run The South Central High School Archery Club, Forbes State Park, Kinmundy, IL.

My question is simple, if this was to happen, would you come and take your best shot?

1 class: Open Entry fee $50.00

1st place prize $1000.00

2nd place $500.00

3rd place $250.00

I want your honest opinions. Do you think we could get 50 + shooters to come and play? We would need at least 50 shooters to make this happen. If we could get more maybe we could even pay down a few more slots.

Would it bother you if you shoot against some pros and semi pros? I myself would love to see where I stand against them. This would be a chance to maybe even shoot in the same group as them, just like your a pro on the national circuit.

This would be a one day deal. You wouldn't have to waste the entire weekend away on it but we have a great campground close by if you do want to make a weekend out of it.

With guaranteed money on the line we would need to have some type of pre entry where it would be $25.00 sent in advance and the other $25.00 paid at the shoot.

Would you want a speed limit? Would you want to shoot center 12 or low 12?

Again the main question I have is would you play???

i would love to do this but there is one big problem, leave out the pro's and semi pro's. if i want to see how i stack up against them then i will go to a local asa shoot such as the one in london ky.

I'm with Wilko on this one,why would I want to embarrass the Pro's and semi Pro's and hurt their feelings by taking the cash home with me????

I heard this on AT that this shoot was a scam. Because people never did get there prize money they won. But I don't know if that was true or not.

Not a scam buddy because it has never happened yet. I just posted this today to start getting some feeback.

I have to find out if I could get the 50 shooters + thats all.

we just want to start having bigger and better shoots and thought this would raise some eyebrows.

I go by the same name on archerytalk and have been a member there since 2004.

I am just a die hard 3d shooter with a passion for 3d. Our archery club is South Central high school archery club. We have after school stuff for the high school kids. They help a ton with the set up and tear down at the 3d shoots.

That won't tell you how you stack up because you will not shoot the same course as them. This is a chance to really see. Even better a chance to shoot a round with one of them.

There are some shooters here in westcentral Iowa , who would do that , but I'm not one of them really !

i just dont think it would be fair to be shooting against a pro if youre not at their skill level.that would be like me going to the cub class.

I would come . Speed limit and low 12's no center 12 and a speed limit makes you be on with your yardage. Sounds like a good shoot hope it works out.

That is how I feel! I just want to see.

Also, the chance to shoot an entire round with a pro would be great.

What about Low 12's, 50 yd max and no speed limit? Still have to be on your yardage. Just a thought.

I wouldn't want to take their money as you and i know it wouldn't even pay for the gas!!!!! Would there be a wildcard entry into this ,say like in tennis???? I may have to polish up my Queens English when I except the trophy at the end of the day!!!There will be a trophy right????

When the moneys spent were are the bragging rights???

A wild card entry is an awesome Idea. I personally love the trophies but dont know. Polish up the english and come on up Westy!

I agree that you would need a speed limit. I would like the low 12 myself. I traveled to there trophy shoot last year and had a great time, great bunch of people. I would go in heart beat.

Money shoots are fun, but the problem I have always seen when trying to organize them is that there are more Average Joes shooting than Pro Moes.

$50 is more money than a Average Joe spends all month on shooting 3D...Without knowing more about the event on Sponsors, hosting, total rules and cause of the shoot - it is hard to determine if I was within 100 miles of the event, if I would participate. ---- Just my 3 cents worth

I love archery,and I watch the golf is there a differance????Yes players in golf get 1 plus million to win a tournerment and we get a sticker and a 3 doller trophy????Why?????Mind set and a vision of the big picture,we have a thread on how much a new bow costs but what are the manufactures giving back to the sport in return????Lets be honest golf is the most boring sport on the planet and yet how many guys here have a set of clubs in there Basement!!!!!Does Tiger woods have a Mathews in his,I don't think so!If this sport and it is a sport was much more widely promoted and the rewards equaled the effort this sport would be rating off the scale!!!So I say good for you ES21 for wanting to do something positive for our sport and make it happen,and guys look at the positives in this comp and not the negitives!!!Here's my 25cents worth

Thank you so much. I hope everyone understands that we are a not for profit club. This is the south central high school archery club. All proceeds go directly back into the club. We have after school events along with are monthly shoots. We just want to give the kids better archery/bowhunting skills. Something different than the ball sports.

I'm a die hard 3d guy. I have always dreamed of being able to offer a tournament with a higher prize. I'm really hoping we can make this happen.

For those that don't know, We are having Our Team challenge April 21st. 1 student and 1 adult make the team. best arrow scores and a shoot off at the end. Kids love trophies and we have some really nice ones we are giving away. This shoot is for the kids.

I know of alot of Average Joes that shoot somewhere every weekend. The average distance to the money Pro-Ams we attend is between 4 1/2 hrs to 17hr drive but its worth it. If the moneys there you'll get more shooters.

I would recommend looking at the No Bull 1000 Shoot in Kansas for an example of what a good money shoot can bring in, even in an area that isn't as 3D heavy as where you are. I've heard alot of great things about it and it can pull shooters from a long ways away.

I appreciate everyone's advice and idea's on this.

Right now, my biggest concern is South Central Archery gets one chance to make a first impression! We want it to be a great one! Worth every penny!

We know we cannot please everyone. That is not going to keep us from trying.

I have heard from more than 1 person that they want Mckenzies to shoot. Right now, our club is a 50/50 mix. Our targets are in excellent shape. 8 are brand new. This is one of the many issues we will be discussing.

Very soon we will have an update for all of you.

Please, keep the ideas coming.

The shooters are the ones who will make this work!!!

I would have to say that if I would shoot in something like this I would want a non-shooting person to keep score for everyone. I see way too many people making there scores better than they should be.

We will use double score cards. Two people per group keeping score. We will be busting groups of shooters who ride together also, this way everyone makes new friends

I would come. I think ASA rules would be great only scoring the low 12. Great warm up for Augusta the following weekend.
