Help choosing a Release
I am getting started shooting 3D. I have a Tru-Fire Hardcore release that I use for hunting but would like to get a thumb trigger release. I know I want a 4 finger release but from what manufacturer I'm not sure. I would appreciate to hear some input from people that have used these.

I use a Carter Attraction as a BT release but it can be set as a thumb release as well. I do like it but it's not cheap.

Anything by Carter or Stan is good, I like the Stan Shoot off for the easy of adjustment. To adjust the Carters you have to change a small spring.
Also, if your planning on learning back tension with this release you might want to try a few three finger and a few four finger releases. In my experiance once you get that fourth finger on the release it makes for a harder release when it comes to back tension. But that's just me.
Take a look at the classifieds over on AT, let somebody else take the big hit on a new release and get a used one intil you decide what kind of release you like. It takes most people 4 or 5 different hand held releases intil they find one right for them.
Oh and welcome to 3d shoots!

You can't go wrong with Tru-Ball....It's a "Ford/Chevy" argument...There are numerous good quality releases out there...You need to shoot as many different ones as you can and find what you like.

Carter, Stan, Spot Hogg, T.R.U. Ball; all fine releases. Personal preference. My advise is to stay with a sear activated hook release - not a caliper release. In a sear activated release, the hook releases/dumps all at once. Some caliper releases open incrementally as you pull the trigger. You want a crisp release that you can fire by back tension.

Tru ball, carter, stan , spot hogg , merlin, hot shot and carter all make good units. The hoggs housings are teeny, too small for big paws. Stay away from the tru balls that dont have the silverish ****ing lever on the back. A good used one is the way to go.

if youre looking for a good thumb trigger release then imo you cant beat about any truball release. i really liked the boss x but as far as a caliper release is concerned then i would try a scott wildcat release. thats what i use to hunt with
