patients my son
yeah i know this is a late picture but its the first chance i had to post these pics of his bird. we was set up early opening morning of the ky's season and heard this big one rumbling the tree tops about 150 yds away along with a few others. this big guy had a couple hens with him and was relunctant to cross a big deep hollow to check out all the action in the edge of the field that me and my son was creating. we had a strutting jake and a hen decoy out and just making some suttle calls at first. He would respond to every call i made but wouldnt leave those hens, then i decided to play the (hard to get) tactic. i would just make some soft feeding purrs and clucks, once again he would respond but wouldnt leave those hens. i told my son to have patients that he would eventually show up and after 1.5 hrs later, he couldnt stand it. we heard him coming up through the woods spitting and drumming and then he showed himself out in front of my son at a mere 15 steps! when all was said and done, the big bird weighed 24lbs had a 11" beard with 1 1/2" spurs.
