Who's ready?
I have go to the bank this morning and see about a loan for broadheads, besides that my equipment is ready for opening day.
Stands and clothes, now that's a different story. I got 3 stands I still want to get moved around and I haven't even dug my hunting clothes out.
The time is getting near!!
Are you ready?

Stands are up though some should be replaced (getting old). 1 bow should be good to go, the other just got new threads and is not ready. I am the weak link, have'nt shot but once since last season. I'm not changing anything as far as arrows or heads or bows this year. Just have to start shooting. mid Oct is my opener. I cannot remember not shooting for this long since I started in the mid 70's. Life happens sometimes I guess. I'll be ready.

Yeap.........I took a long look at the Rage's in the case, the a long look in my wallet and grabbed a pack of muzzy's.
I used some slick tricks last year for the first time with good results but muzzy's always do the job at a reduced price.

I'm ready. checked out my stands yesterday were I'm going to hunt. still in good shape. its an old farm on Brushy Mt. that hasnt been farmed in 30 + years. fields get smaller each year with brush and autumn olive bushes. hate them. but has a lot of apple trees with a good crop of apples. didnt see any acorns any were but lots of sign under the apple trees.

Can't find a apple on any of our trees this year, the early spring with a few late frost wiped all our buds out.
Some of my best stands over look apple trees

do you have any autumn olive there. its a bush with red berries on it. they will take over a field in a heart beat. dont know if deer will eat them but a lot of other game will.

no. the russian olive is a tree that has thorns on it and grows up 20 feet high or more. the autumn olive is a bush that has red berries on it. it will only grow about 5-6 feet high. bad thing is they spread fast and hard to get rid of. the berries are eatable after a frost. I ate some last year before a frost and my lips are still pucker.the berries make a real good jam.

I have never saw deer eat then. they use the thickets for cover. but I have never saw a deer actually eat the berries.

I've lined up my new deer transporter, an Old Town Guide 119. Replacing the 30+ year old fiberglass tank of a canoe I have been using. 43 lbs, just under 12' long, should be perfect. Can slide a nice doe right in and paddle her home. Just need a little rain now and then to fill up the river. I hate to drag those suckers 10'. I'm going to have to take a trip up river to do some trimming but it's well worth it come november.
My oldest son's first bow deer was like an old Fred Bear movie. Full moon, found the deer around 9 or 10 PM, my buddy paddled upriver and the two of them floated his deer out. Snow on the ground and the full moon was like being in a lit parking lot. Very cool! If you have access to water, they float out in a canoe alot easier than dragging.
Oh, and we have some acorns this year thankfully, last year not a one. All but 1 of my stands are in Oaks.

OH BOY OH BOY
I packed me a a few cool ones and sat on the edge of my bean field last night and all I can say is OH BOY OH BOY
I got to move me some stands around and quick like. The pics are crap but there were acoup[le dandy 8 points and a nice tall 6, all look to be at least 2.5 year old bucks. Had a few smaller guy wander out too. All told 21 deer were working on that bean field, the beans are pretty much destoryed.

Well, I said I was all set with broadheads, but I visited Cabelas.
4 Gorrila stands, a Kayak paddle, a decoy sled (deer sled) and a pac of shuttle T locs later...
These T-locs are not what I would call sharp. I can rub my thumb up and down and no worries about getting a cut. They will be, but I got to buy a round or oval steel. WTH, how can they let these BROADHEADS out of the house like this? HELLO, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SHARP!!

I shot the 3 on the left. adjust the sight and shot the two on the right. then said close enough. dont plan on a 60 yard shot anyway.
