Default KE for hunting?

As of right now, my bow is putting out roughly 39.4ftlbs of KE. Is that enough for deer hunting? Elk? Black bear? Thanks for the responce. As of my vibration and wrist problem, turns out the bow vibrates very little, I just have a gangleon cyst on my holding wrist that needs to be gotten rid of. No big deal but the wrist pain is alot of the reason I was having issues it seems. It doesn't hurt much lately, and will be taken care of on the 28th if all goes well if not it'll go away eventualy.

Kinetic Energy

Hunting Usage

< 25 ft. lbs.
Small Game (rabbit, groundhog, etc.)

25-41 ft. lbs.
Medium Game (deer, antelope, etc.)

42-65 ft. lbs.
Large Game (elk, black bear, wild boar, etc.)

> 65 ft. lbs.
Toughest Game (Cape Buffalo, Grizzly, etc.)

that is the generally agreed upon numbers. so for deer your in the clear but you may watch going after some of the bigger game

I'm still a bit curious about how your only getting 225 FPS out of a bow rated at over 295 fps. I mean even if you are shooting a 26 inch draw you still shouldn't drop that far... I mean you'll drop quite a bit of speed, don't get me wrong but dropping 70? thats a lot! What all do you have on your string?

Based on my calculations your arrow would be in the 350 grain range at 225 fps to hit the KE you stated.. You should be able to get much more speed then that.

I'm pulling about 60lbs, at 26.5" draw weight. I am shooting gold tip hunter expeditions as 8.2grains/lbs w/100grn tip and blazer vanes. I have limb savers on the limbs, string leaches on the main string as well as a tube and peep site and a D-loop. Idk why I'm getting 226fps either. Tuning and string stretch doesn't seem to be a problem as the dina cam has a "large window of rotation" as stated on martins site and with single cam shouldn't be out of line.

the chrony at the range, I'm shooting from about 4-6 feet away and getting 226-227fps. My gf is getting 185-195 depending on arrow used. With a browning micro adrenaline at 48lbs and 24" DL.

it's used regularly by other range members and give accurate readings. I see alot of 280-304fps flying by...lol. When I used a KE calculator it gave me roughly the same stats I got, and isn't really makeing it feasable to go over 240fps with this setup somehow. I'm losing about 25fps or more just on draw length, not sure what's costing me the rest of the speed. I wonder if perhaps the orion is a bow that falls a bit farther short of it's IBO than most?
