Default new to archery

Hello. I am wanting to learn how to shoot a bow. I have no idea on how to pick the right kind of bow. My family shoots but my brother doesn't have time to help me anymore so I need some help. What do I need to look for in a bow? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome!

OK.....what are you looking to do with your new bow? Hunt? Target? 3-D?

If you give everyone some idea of what your intentions are, folks can make decent suggestions.

Do you have an archery shop, not a Wal Mart, that you can go to?

Your new bow is just the framework. You'll need alot of accessories. Your intended use of the bow will dictate alot of that.

Where you start is.......

You need to learn what your personal limits are regarding the basic set up of your new bow. How much weight you can draw? What is your draw length? These questions can be answered at any competent archery shop. We can't even think to make suggestions about basic stuff on a forum.

If deer are on your list....

I checked the Missouri conservation site and noted that you are not bound to any minimum draw weight. CLICK HERE TO READ

Thus, you can hunt deer and turkey with a bow, in your state, without regard to your draw weight. Here in NC, you must have a minimum draw weight of 35 pounds. And, I would never suggest any draw weight less than that for deer sized game.

Bowhunting is a very personal thing. You can borrow your friend's rifle and possibly do well with it. A bow rig, on the other hand, needs to be fitted to you.

I hope this helps.
