Default replacing strings or cables (when to do)

I have a year old bow that I shoot sometimes and have a older bow that is 4 years old that I continue to shoot almost daily....both bows have the mfg strings and cables on them, never have had a ( tru-peep) turning problem with the strings etc, I do wax strings, cables all the time and they seem to be like new. How soon should you change a string ? I do not have any broken strands and or fuzz showing on the strings.... thanks in advance for your feedback

I look around the areas that rotate around the cam and idler wheel for wear. I found that the wear is usually hidden among the serving in those areas. If the serving is separated be suspect to string/cable wear. If the material itself is not worn, have the separated serving fixed.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the newer string material is far better than the material that was around just a few years ago. For your 4 year old bow a string/cable replacement may be an under-rated thing to do.

One of my hunting buddies has a string and cable on his PSE Carrera that is probably 5+ years old. He's finally going to change them out. He shoots quite a bit but he keep those things clean and waxed all the time.

Yeah, keeping the string/cable clean and waxed is kind of like changing the oil in your car.

I think it is mostly a matter of opinion. On my old bow that I shot for about 2 years then stored it for 5 yrs, everyone told me the strings and cables looked great and didn't need replacing. I decided to do it anyway and I could feel a huge difference in the way the bow shot. I can't really describe it other than it just felt not so soft, felt like more of a crisp clean release.

I would suggest that the strings and cables be changed at least every 12-18 months. If you shoot alot change once a year and every 18 months for those that don't shoot that often. It's not so much of a problem with wear and tear on the strings, though you will notice some, but more in the fact that the strings and cables will stretch. This will cause a change in your A to A, draw weight, arrow speed just to mention a few.
