I went over to another forum today with the same pics posted in how's my form thread. Results, my release was to long, lose the string loop, DL to long. One guy went so far as to say drop my tip weight on my arrows to 55grns, shoot feathers, lose string leaches, loop, and tubed peep, move my noch point up, change my rest etc. Pretty much no part of my bow is actualy correct. This is frustrating seems I have to do everything I can to shorten my DL..then make up for it by doing every speed mod possable and I'll still be shooting a slow bow with limited equipment choices...I mean seriously there's only 1 or 2 55 grn broadheads. I'm thinking if I have to remove all that I may either just shoot however I have it set up and do what I can with what I have, trade in for a mathews ignition which goes down to my DL of apparently 25 or 26" or stick with rifles as it seems I am playing catch up in a game I can't win. Off to work just frustrated and had to rant.

Don't give up. Everybody has their own opinions. The best thing you can do is take the ones that sound like they may help and try them, if you don't like the change, change it back. I was just as frustrated:frusty: a few weeks ago. You can't please everyone, so just please yourself. Just for example, these guys told me to take the tube off my peep and since it was about to snap anyway, I changed peeps. So far, I like it. But if I decide I don't like it, I will definately go back to the tube. This sport is about fitting the equiptment to YOU, not everyone else. Good Luck :cheer2:

No it was archery talk not here, the suggestions here have been very helpfull. Taking down my DL a half inch to 26" makes sense, and that's no big deal. Changing every piece of equipment I own however is expensive and frustrating. To be honest I love my scott mongoose release, I tried seven or eight before I found the one I wanted. The trigger is right where it's comfortable and though long in the shank it feels stable and smooth and easy to anchor which I like. The idea of shooting some odd specialty head of 55 grns to ring every once of speed from a non speed bow just seems well stupid. And I'm sorry but going with a back tension release for hunting just seems silly. I was told it would help with target panic..but I didn't know I had target panic so I was really confused. Also I was told to remove my D loop. I like the idea of not transfering torque to the string and not beating up my serving as I try to shoot alot and will shoot more as it warms up. I think you guys are right, I'll reduce my DL a bit and shoot what I like.

Glad to hear you are not going to give up on archery. It truly is alot of fun once you get things comfortable for yourself. Everyone will have their own opinions but just make little changes at a time if you are going to change them at all. Do you have any shops or clubs around you where you can go and get some help from others who have been where you are. We all started off confused and frustrated. Most, not all but most archers at clubs and shops will truly enjoy helping a fellow archer get started. I truly hope you get things lined out soon and can begin enjoying this wonderful sport. Keep it up buddy it will be worth it.:peace:

I just can't figure out why anyone would tell you to get rid of your d-loop, thats plain crazy. There is nothing wrong with your equipment, might need adjusted a little, but nothing wrong with it. Speed is not near as important as accuracy. Glad to see your not giving up!!!!!

That exactly why I have like 20 posts over there in the last year. Nothing is wrong with your bow. Get it setup and tuned to you. Thats it. I had a couple people a few years ago tell me its hard to shoot good with bad equipment. I thought that was bull.......and quite frankly pissed me off, I liked the bow that I had, I had it setup with what I could afford and just had fun with it. I got expensive stuff now and I still shoot the same 299's with what I have now as I did then......did up my X count quite a bit but alot of that has to do with practice..........anyway like I said shoot what you have and if down the road you would like a fancy target bow so be it but dont do it to try to keep up with anyone....do it cause you want to:peace:

Oh and remember you dont have to spend a fortune on bows anyway people kill deer with the cheapest priced stuff out there the same as people who spend $700.00 on a bare bow................................Man I think I need to prioritize.

Right now I'm shooting a scott mongoose release, sword micro apex site, martin orion bow, limb saver stabalizer, string leeches, and limbsavers, some cheap wrist strap, and a golden key futura pronghorn rest and a D. Loop on string. My arrows are 26" long with 100grn tips and blazer fletching, gold tips, 8.2gpi. And I pull 64lbs. I'm considering an alpine whisperflite drop away rest with cable slide attatchment and a teflon cable slide from limbsaver with pre made drop away attatchment holes and a cable dampener, as well as a front mount STS system and upgrading to super string leeches. For adjustments I will go check the "how's my form" thread and probably take my DL down a half inch as with most methods I shoot a 26" DL. I won't however switch to a back tension for hunting, and I don't have target panic so I think it's rather silly to try to fix it. Thanks all for the help, I really don't plan on "upgrading" getting a speed bow I won't ever win a speed race with a 26" draw, I rather like light, short bows and the Orion is perfect in that reguard. The only thing I don't like about the orion is the lack of a rear hole for mounting an STS..but I'll get a front mount it's hardly worth an upgrade.

Are you kidding bowman, how else would I get you to go catch me a couple copperheads? No way I'm giving up on archery. I'm frustrated by the speed is everything, come as close to dryfireing your bow as you can, and don't forget about back tension releases to avoid target panic stuff, not the sport I just have to educate myself so I can do my own tuning (another great thing about the orion, the cam has a rather wide range of effective rotation). Anyway yes sticking around if I want to try BT release I'll just try a back tension method using my middle finger with my release but to be honest shooting a bow is like shooting a pellet gun..there's not much noise or recoil which causes flinching, I don't get hit with the string much...so why would I panic on target? Draw, anchor, aim breath, hold and squeeze the release...seems just like every other trigger I've delt with.

n2t, I just went through all of this. I like to learn what I can and got overwhelmed. I had lots of people tell me to get rid of my old Martin Jaguar, wisker biscuit, junk sight, cobra release,... I got the draw length set after going to 2 shops and being measured and got what I thought felt right. If it needs changed later it is only $10 for my mods. Since I started shooting I did upgrade to the "new" biscuit insert, shortened my release and got a round sight. That was all by my choice as I started to develope my own style. As for the bow, I need to get alot better before I can out-shoot my bow. When I can, I will probably buy a year old bow from someone that has to have the latest and greatest. I can't see that 20-40 fps can make "that much difference" to me. I just a new-bee, but that is how I dealt with what you are going through. GL :noidea:
