    LIGHT AND FAST OR HEAVY AND HARD HITTING? :noidea:
    THE OTHER DAY I over herd some guys at the shop talking about it

    my hunting arrow is 397gn thinking of moving up to 417gns:bowl:

    i like around a 400 grn arrow myself. But that's personal preference...:biggrin1:

    20 grains wont make much difference in speed and k.e.

    if you get about 290 with 397 gr. that's 74.16 ft/lbs then with a 417 gr. you should get about 283 with 74.18 ft/lbs. It actually goes up a little.

    I assumed about 1 fps loss for every 3 grains of arrow weight.

    My finished shafts are just under 300 grain and I use a 100 grain atom hunting broadhead. I shoot 60 # at about 260 fps. Most of my kills on whitetails are pass throughs with short and plentiful blood trails. The last two collapsed within sight of my tree stand.

    430 grain arrow for hunting....Its flys around 300 fps.

    I shoot a 390gr arrow at 276fps. Seems like the best of both worlds to me. :D

    My arrows are 409grains with a speed of 287fps. Thats heavy enough for anything I will be hunting. All the deer I have shot have been pass thrus.
