I can get, basically, a free used compound bow, which the seller is asking $100 but I have an item of trade the seller wants. Can you tell me if this bow is appropriate for me.

I'm 6'1", 190 lbs, adult male of above average strength, I have strong shoulders and back muscles, and high athletic ability. I shoot a lot of guns but never shot a bow.

Here are the details of the bow:

The bow is a Bear Whitetail Legend, draw length 80", draw weight 60#, AMO compound string length 30" . Arrows are Easton Gamegetter XX75, shaft size 2315 lite. They come with a Kolpin wrist guard and fur-covered quiver. Everything is either tri or 4-color camo. String is in good shape.
    Price is $100 firm.

I don't hunt but I do want to learn to shoot a bow well. What type of range does this bow have.

Is this bow appropriate for me?

    Thank you.

    HI,

well first the drawlength can't be 80 inches, it just isn't possible. Maybe something like 30?

if your getting it for free and you just want to see what archery is all about then go for it, but that bow is very old, I think they were made in the late 80's or 1990?

Like I said, if all you want to do is shoot a bow around the house a bit just to play and this bow is working correctly (you won't find spare limbs or parts) then go for it. If you plan on doing any real amount of shooting, 3d shooting, spots... i would say look for a newer bow that you know can take the number of shots you'll put through it.

Howdy and :welcome: to the forum. The bow apparently has a DL of 30" and a string length of 80" I believe you mixed the two up. As for the DL you need to get a bow that fits you if it is too long you will struggle. Take and measure from your middle fingertip accross to the other middle fingertip then take that measurement and divide by 2.5 that should get you close. I am not sure about the Whitetail Legend although I did once have a Whitetail II and it was ok for its time but would not think it was much of a bow now for me as I am a hunter and would think the bow to be loud and slow. But I know of many deer killed with the Whitetail II. If that is all you can afford right now then I say go for it but check to see if you can adjust the DL to fit you or if it already does then your set. As for the 60# DW that is fine most guys nowadays only shoot around 60#. I would think it would be fine for just fooling around at the range or in the backyard. If it were me I would check into the new Fred Bear bows they are great and at a decent price (ranging from $200-$500) or the PSE NOVA it is a very nice beginner bow and ranges from $199-$299 depending on your area. With all that being said if the Whitetail Legend fits you then by all means get it and start enjoying this wonderful sport. Good luck and again WELCOME to the forum.:peace:

I have to agree. I think If you are really interested I would find out what my actual draw length is then start looking for used 60-70 lb bow on e-bay or in the classifieds here or AT.
