my buddy bought a lighted sight and when it gets to low enough light that he has to use it he turns it on and cant see anything through his peep sight becuse of the light. Are they even worth the money?
Personally I think that with the advancement of fiber optics, if you have to use a sight light it might be a little to dark to be shooting in the first place. I know I can see my pins just fine well past legal shooting light so that's not my limiting factor in deciding when to get out of the tree. If your friend wants to use a light, get a variable intensity light or use a blue LED, it will cut down on the glare.
good thinking, because his sight pins are always really bright anyway, so i think im going to get the same sight without the light.
I'm not a fan of the lighted sights but some seem to like them so I guess its all about what works for you. eace:
I think it depends on the sight. If you have 6-12 inches of good quality fiber per pin you probably dont need it, but some sights only have maybe 2 inches and a light comes in handy on those. my copper john Dead Nuts comes to mind.
I lost a oppurtuntiy at a great deer last year because it was overcast and I couldnt see my pin 10 minutes before legal hours:doh: . I bought a lighted pin sight this year and this was a major facter. I went with small blue pins and I can see them fine when it gets dusk.
I aggree I think it has everything to do with the type and color of fiber. The stuff Fitzfiber used to sell is now being handled by scott and son, I have the SD (short lenths) in my spotthogg and no longer need the sight-ring light adapter I bought for it. Funny, blue was for me, the worst one without a light. My pins are all green, I guess I see that color best. My other sight has the LD (long lenth), about a yard on each pin, that hurts your eyes in sunlight! No light needed.
Lighted sight I have a lighted sight and it is great indoors at an archery range.Bass Pro has a great range with 3-d animals and a elevated second floor to practice shooting down. But the lighting sucks ,when you extend your bow arm you cant see your pins. Also in a ground blind there is no sun light you need a light.I sit in the back of the blind and there is no natural light.Wolf
Only if you can adjust the light's intensity. I used to use one but got rid of it because it made the fibers too bright. I upgraded fibers to longer ones and now I don't have an issue. The pin brightnes is now more or less self adjusting to the ambient light. Ron
