I would like to get a bow for my GF and my son as he gets older and she says she will hunt with me and I know she cant pull 50 lbs. I found a 2007 micro adrenaline 30-40 but can you hunt with that?
Ha,Lou! In Va the bow has to propel an arrow 125yds My son at age 11 killed his first deer with a micro-midas on 45lbs Shooting XX75 eastons 2013 with thunderheads Took a big doe at 18yds and the arrow almost passed thru the deer!:biggrin1:
NOT TRUE.....read your rules......:frusty: it states that a legal hunting bow has to be ableto propel a legal hunting arrow 100 yrds, no mater the angle you hold the bow at.....
Long (stick), recurve or compound bow with a draw weight in excess of 35 pounds. A legal arrowhead is non-barbed, has 2 or more cutting edges and is at least 7/8 inches wide. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/35010.html
With proper shot placement and sharp broadheads, 40 lbs would certainly be able to cleanly kill a deer. However the broadheads should be fixed blade as your K/E would be quite light for mechanicals.
In Texas the following applies: does not matter how far it will shoot an arrow just how many pounds: copied and pasted from the Texas Parks and Wildlife regulations Longbows, compound bows, or recurved bows: must have a 40-pound minimum draw at the time of hunting, when used to hunt turkey and all game animals other than squirrel. that are equipped with a device that allows the bow to be locked at full or partial draw are lawful during any season when lawful archery equipment may be used. Crossbow: Any person may use a crossbow to hunt game animals or game birds (except migratory game birds) during a general open season or Eastern spring turkey season. Telescopic sights are lawful. ONLY a person with an upper-limb disability may use a crossbow to hunt deer and turkey during the Archery Only Open Season, provided the person, while hunting, has in their immediate possession a physician's statement certifying the extent of the disability. An upper-limb disability is a permanent loss of the use of fingers, hand, or arm in a manner that renders the person incapable of using lawful archery equipment. A crossbow is lawful for game animals and game birds (except migratory game birds and as provided above), provided: the crossbow has a minimum pull of 125 pounds; the crossbow has a mechanical safety; and the crossbow stock is not less than 25 inches in length. Projectiles (Arrows): While hunting game animals and game birds, a projectile may not be poisoned, drugged, or explosive. When used to hunt turkey and all game animals other than squirrels, a projectile must be equipped with a broadhead hunting point that is at least 7/8-inch in width (upon impact) and has a minimum of 2 cutting edges. A mechanical broadhead must begin to open upon impact and, when open, must be a minimum of 7/8-inch in width. An archer may have arrows with field, target, or judo points in the quiver with the broadhead hunting points.
what kind of pentration are ya gittin' into foam set you up what ya feel would be a realist shot on a deer and check tha pentatration.
so why didnt you point this out....? not allowed: any firearm equipped with a silencer. Mathews dont need silencers on the string so i am o.k.
If you are using a low poundage bow, First check what's legal where you hunt. Consider what I posted in reply to the thread "QUESTIONS FOR EXPERIENCED ARCHERS" pertaining to broadheads. I'm not trying to preach to anyone, it is only the sharing of my experiences of many years of shooting and deer hunting with a bow. Much learned through trial, error, and expense. Good Luck to you! Jeff
Here in Mo there is no # restrictions (as far as i know) but i would subjest that the shots taken would be 20yds and less.Deer are the only big game we have.I too would perfere that the person use a good cut on contact fixed BH.
My Wife killed her first deer last year and got a complete pass through with 40# She was shooting a Bowtech Equalizer Dan
35# is legal in Indiana. And yes you can humanely hunt and kill with it. With proper arrow placement and broadheads. I know a girl who killed a doe at 18 yards with a 35# bow and it only travelled about 60 yards and fell over.eace:
