so anyway, Brooke and I go to do chores this morning......

I relize I need to get feed, so i figure letme water now, I can then run to the feed store, a couple miles down the road.....

So I grab a water jug and start watering........

the second cage I go to grab, the door toopen it and something on top of the cage catches my eye.......

its a snake and a big one at that, coiled up on top, now remember the cages are stacked 3 high, so this thing is about 6.5 feet above the ground......

So I grab Brooke and head for the house........

I am having a heart attack about this point.....

so I get a rake and a hatchet.........I usethe rake to pull the snake off of the cage and the thing wraps it self around the rake and starts to go for my hands......

I throw the rake like a little girl......(I HATE SNAKES).....

I finaly pin the thing down and grab the hatchet......BYE BYE snake.....

Measured he is 5.5', and about as big around as my daughters arm......

I dont need this MO FO eatong my babies......I just hope his mommy or daddy, dont come around.......:scared:

  10. Several years ago during my feeble attempt to raise rabbits, I had a similar experience. My youngest daughter was about 5 at the time (she's 30 now).

She would always go with me to feed and water. Usually while I was tending the cages, she would pull up grass from the yard and "help" the feeding process.

Well one day she says: "Daddy, Midnight must have had her babies". I went to that cage opened the door and stuck my head in. As normal Midnight had made a nest using her BLACK belly fur. As I was searching through the nest (not finding any babies), I glanced up and realized that I was eye to eye - nose to nose with a black snake.

Needless to say, I nearly peed myself. As soon as I got my head out of the cage, here comes Midnight. She leaps out of the cage and across the yard.

The snake had eat every one of the babies except one that was still born.

I felt it my "duty" (once I caught Midnight) to put her in a different cage.

BTW: The snake learned what the lead from a .22 rifle tastes like.

Hmmm........I could see where snakes would be a problem; tight wire mesh would be useful. Of course you can't get too carried away on the bottom. We never had that problem, just the :censored: yotes.

I thought about the gun, BUT I would have had shoot up at it and would have put a hole in the roof......

needless to say, that thought was only in the head for about 2 seconds.....:D
