I am hating this....the snakes are out so I can't take my kids out to the range anymore. They are too small to understand about snakes. I can't remember the last time I was out there or even shot my bow for practice. The last two times I was able to shoot was 3D shoots. I need to find a better place to shoot soon!!
only good ones a dead one......sorry guys.....thats MHO.....I have been to the res fishing like 5 times in the last week....and seen no less than three each day......we aint talking little ones either.....Iam talking super giant huge 12" ones.....and these little bastards swim.....I have seen them swim for a couple miles at a time....
Snakes just get a bad rap. They are very awesome creatures. As long as they are not poisonous I have no problem with them at all. I think you should take your kids to a zoo or nature center so they can learn about snakes. Do not raise them to fear snakes when taught young to fear something it will last their entire lives. Yes they must learn to respect them but not fear them. My grandfather taught me at a very young age that the big black snake in the barn was there for a very good reason.(mice and rats) Good luck with finding a new range and getting back to shootin.eace: Oh and bowman give me a break a 12" snake is just a baby.
Yeah Hoosier, I agree. Expose your kids to things that will help them not be afraid. Explain that there are safe and dangerous snakes and teach them how to tell them apart. It's no different than teaching a child what is poison ivy vs a harmless plant. Snakes are cool, but none in my house.... Hey, I have to draw the line someplace... Ron
Snakes! I use to think like bowman about snakes until my son got a corn snake baby! Now he raises baby corns & sells them to pet stores. I handle them & he shown me how to. Now we walk through the woods & pick them up, If there not poisonise! His female is 5 feet long & the male is 4&1/2 feet Snakes wont bother you if you dont bother them!:biggrin1:
screw you guys my daughter hates flies......and any bugs......i will have no trouble teaching her to hate ALL snakes....:biggrin1:
I guess tha snake got tha bad rap from tha garden of Eden when he helped ta messed up a perfect situation.. Bad snake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Smokes, same back to you. I look forward to seeing and shooting whith you folks in PA. Bring on the campfires, bows/arrows, beer (not you Smokes, I guess) and food. Might be too much food... And maybe way too many grills... We'll have a good time it sounds like. Ron
Guys, I am not afraid of snakes, at least the Non venomous ones. But trying to teach a 1 & 3 year old to be aware of them and not be too curiously close...just don't think it is going to happen until they are a little older. I will just have to go shoot by myself and leave them home with daddy for now.
That sounds like very good advice and I am sure it is tha safest. I am not afraid of snakes even picked up a few/No not during church . I still only really like tha dead uns.
