was wondering how do you guys get your animal out, if you cant drive right close to it? I like to use a pack frame, lot less work then draggin by a long shot.
MOST of the places I hunt I can get to w/the ATV.....or truck..... a few places i am not so lucky......have to drag......I have regretted shooting something, more than a few times.....way back in the woods.....
As we can't bone out and pack, drag. If the fall rains have brought up the rivers enough I can canoe them out after a reasonable drag.
I rarely archery hunt more then 200 - 300 yards from where I can pull a truck up to so its kill, track, clean, drag for me. What I have found very useful is using my harness rope as a drag rope, it distributes the weight pretty well and makes dragging easier then holding it with one hand and your bow with the other.
I only drag as a last option. If I have friends in the area I call them to come drive my deer out on their atv. Also there is no shortage of help when the time comes for dragging.
I just toss them up on a shoulder and walk them out. At least the ones between 100 and 300 lbs. Ones heavier that that I throw up over 2 shoulders.....:biggrin1:
I usually go get my huntin buddy, he always like to help. By the way my hunting buddy is a four wheeler.eace:
depending on what i am hunting for.... meat i can get a 4 wheeler or truck to..... horns....well i hunt as far out in the woods as i can get so it is always drag and or cut up and pack out depending on size....usually a mile or more in and no way to get 4 wheelers or trucks in
I double strap and put one strap over each shoulder and then i start dragging it the 1.5+ miles back to the hunting cabin. Its a good work out.
