Just wondering everyone. Do you recomend changing stock string and cables on a new bow? Or how soon after purchasing a new bow do you recomend changing? I'm shooting Mathews SB XT, had for about 3 weeks and shoot 50-60 arrows a day, on the weekends I shoot more. What brand sugestions? For those shooting the Mathews SB XT, do your recommend adding string silencers to string? Limb Savers? The bow is fairly quiet stock and the Pro shop said I did not need to add anything. What do you think?
I wouldnt worry about changing the string right away, the stock strings are very good. As for silencers they are not needed but i recommend cat whispers.
Barracuda Bow Strings by Zebra Barracuda bow strings.. Have heard good stuff about them. Made by Zebra. Anyway the Barracuda strings are prestretched in the manufacturing process. It is supposed to eliminate creeping. I thought the Mathews SB came standard with a Barracuda string. You may want to check into that. If it did then I would say you are good for a while. rdnkgrl_robinhood [email protected]
Barracuda strings do come stock on Switchbacks and Xt's.....among others.....very good string....they had issues when the Switchback first came out w/ the serving on the cam end being too fat....But I fixed that by installing thinner serving on mine and have had no problems.....I am going on 2 years....same string and cable......have shot this bow for hunting....two 3-d seasons and 3 indoor leagues.....no problems yet.....they have changed that serving by the way......
I think with proper waxing a string can last a very long time. I have approx. 10,000 shots through my XT and the string is doing great. I did have the cable reserved when the factory serving began to separate. Most guys I know shoot there factory strings for a year then buy WC and keep the factory strings and cables as backups.
I for one will be replacing my strings and cables after hunting season w/Barracuda strings and cables......I like them alot and will let you know if the replacements are better or worse than the original.......
Thats one thing I noticed was the serving going around cams seem to be a little fat. I wax my string after each shooting session. I was told this is a good string and cable set and will replace in a few months and use this set as a backup.
