I am thinking about changing sights this year. I have been shooting a 5 pin matrix for a couple of years, and I am thinking about changing to a Spot Hogg. I am looking at the 7DP or the Hogg-it Hunter. Any advise?
The 7DP and the hunter hogg-it are both great. The Hunter gives you 3rd axis leveling though. I won't shoot any sight without 3rd axis leveling but that's just my opinion.
How much of the sight pic does the SDP pins take up, are they thin. i am looking into gettin a new pin sight this week.
I would go with the Hogg-it hunter. The 7 pins cause way to much sight picture blockout. I had a regular Hogg-it and had to cut the wire out just to get some space in there. The Spot Hogs are kind of cluttered. But they are awesome sites.
Get the 5 pin with the 2-3/8" guard. This is what I used for hunting last year. More than enough visibility with the larger guard.
How bright are the pins? I'm sure they probably have a light set up. But say compared to HHA how bright are the pins?
Spot-Hogg sites are not very bright at all. That is the number one complaint that people have about the site. Most people do some sort of homemade brightness modification. Stock its just not very bright. The fibers only run the length of the pins. I had trouble seeing my target when I got off my 20 yard pin with the wire there. Once I cut the wire out things got a lot better, however with the single pin adjustment its hard to keep your pins on the same horizontal plane without it. The spot hogg sites are definatly quality though. They are solid as a rock, nothing else quite compares.
